Mariners catcher Kenji Johjima was hit by a pitch in the first inning of Wednesday night's game and had to leave the game for a pinch-hitter in the second inning. After several minutes of treatment from the team's medical staff, Johjima went to first base and finally advanced to third base. He caught the top of the second inning, but rookie Adam Moore batted for Johjima in the bottom of the inning.
Johjima went into the game with 9 home runs and 22 RBIs. It is the second time he had to leave the game against the Athletics prematurely. He suffered a broken left big toe on May 25 this year in a home plate collision with Oakland infielder Adam Kennedy. Totally he has missed 26 games.
